Trey Nelson

Some people have hobbies like knitting, cooking, or yoga. Trey’s interests are different – he loves people. And hiking. But mostly people.

For the past two decades, Trey has directed and written features, documentaries, series, and commercials. While he is best known as a documentarian and visual storyteller, his work is recognizable for its intimacy and authenticity. His films have been featured at festivals around the world including Tribeca Film Festival. His first feature, LOST IN THE SUN starring Josh Duhamel, was praised as “one of the most beautiful and best acted independent films of the year.”

His most recent documentary, THE 5TH MAN, won ‘Directing’ awards at the Stony Brook Film Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, and ‘Best Story’ at the Boston Film Festival. His commercial work includes collaborations with Google, Starbucks, Delta, Novartis, Fage Yogurt, Weill Cornell Medicine, Caltech, Princeton University, and The City of Ft. Worth.

Outside the domain of storytelling, Trey serves as a creative advisor to Storia - an Ai copilot for creatives. And, for the past 7 years, he has volunteered and consulted for Cookies for Kids Cancer - a pediatric cancer research charity.
